Oil and acrylic on canvas; 2’ x 3’ by me, Leonardo Santamaria
This is an observation on the human aesthetic and it’s relationship with light and shadow as the body moves in motion. The abstraction of the two figures and its lack of a defined silhouette is my interpretation of movement in a strobe-light setting as inspired by concerts where shadows encompass the stage only to be interrupted by bursts of light.

I think the portrait work is among the best I’ve ever done
Base painting of my new portrait. Going to glaze in all of the color and play around with sfumato and blur.

Started working on this while I was at Wondercon.  It’s gonna be my little Spring Break project so now I just gotta transfer it onto a large canvas and color it in with acrylic.

A study of motion I just recently finished. It’s my first acrylic painting.
Tattooed self-portrait work in progress. This is an assignment for my Life Drawing class, where the instructions were to reinterpret a previous life drawing. I kinda bent the rules and just reinterpreted a previous assignment from life drawing but yeah. If you look closely, you can see the Japanese-influenced tattoo work but it’s really feint right now since it’s still in a preliminary stage; pencil.  It’s about 3 feet tall in acrylic on foam board.
This is my work in progress MASTERCOPY of a Pierre Paul Prud’hon study. I seriously hate copying other people’s art with a passion but this is an assignment for life drawing so I have to do it. I also really hate using the grid as well because it makes things too easy and is cheating to me but that’s part of the assignment as well.  To be honest though, I’m actually pretty happy with it so far and love the classical shading as it’s something I’ve been wanting to do myself in an actual study but I guess this is fine for now and it’ll probably help me later on for sure.
